Pieta Descending

Visions of Mary the Immaculate
and most high riding along the
desert sky blazing in mine eyes as
if in a verse by Rilke in Deutsche
dein Herz staht offen und man kann
hienen your heart is open and anyone
one can enter
as the scent of
roses fills the air and the lights
grow dimmer with my brother in arms
lying there seeing the real you at last
through the veil of a stained glass window
leaving no doubt as the Pieta of ultimate
sorrow descends to comfort us in moments
of sorrow with hearts and minds blown open
yet we remain triumphant for over the hills
and far away comes the sound of hoof beat
repeating trumpets announcing the arrival
of the great spirit riding side saddle
to carry abba mio away singing O Sole Mio
or Ave Maria again and again and again
